Three Exercises to Help You Achieve Work-Life Balance

A Shift in Focus

The past few weeks have been PACKED with strategy and action steps to move your business forward! This week we’re going to shift and talk about work/life balance. Why?➵   We don’t want to wait until our business has reached a certain “level of success” before we ensure that we are embracing and enjoying our daily life.➵   We have the honor as entrepreneurs of creating a business that fits into our life and our idea of success; but if we aren’t careful this can get flip-flopped.➵   We want to learn to find peace and joy in our work hours and equally in our non-work hours.Having a thriving life will help you make better business decisions, show up more authentically and make your business more sustainably successful. We want to avoid the direct swap of overworking in our day-jobs for overworking as an entrepreneur

The nitty-gritty hours-per-week

How many HOURS do you work weekly in your business? Since you are the CEO of your business, you are allowed to run it in a way that serves you and your clients best! So often find myself doing things the way others are doing them, or the way I think they “should” be done, instead of really forming it around my ideal life. Today let’s start with a brainstorm that will help ensure we are fitting our business into our life instead of the other way around. Ideally, how many hours do you want to be “working” every week? Outline what you want to be doing for each of those hours in your business. Here’s a very rough outline of mine:

  • Creating Content (1-3 hours)

  • Live Video (1 hour)

  • Engagement via, Facebook, Email, Basecamp (5-10 hours)

  • Meeting with VA and Coach (1.5 hours)

  • Coaching (10 hours weekly)

  • Special Projects (0-4 hours weekly)

Peace In & Out of Our Business Hours

Beyond the hours and what we fill them with, let’s talk about how we want to feel while we do it. ...because let’s be real, we started our business to be happier, more peaceful, more satisfied and less stressed not more! When you own your own business there is always more to be done, something to be improved, an email to answer, a project to finish. Yet, I think there is a way to work hard while also enjoying the journey.

  1. How do you want to FEEL while you’re working in your business?

  2. How do you want to FEEL outside of your business hours?

  3. What “level of success” are you waiting for to give yourself permission to enjoying your business and daily life?

I have to be honest, this has been a struggle for me lately and I have been actively working on fully enjoying my time in and out of my business. Learning to both engage and enjoy. My answers to numbers one and two, are the I want to feel the SAME in both! I want to be confident, at-peace internally, joyful, hopeful, focused, rested etc.

Getting back to the giving and receiving balance

Often when I’m feeling off balance in my business or life, I find that it’s because I’m giving too much without receiving, or I’m receiving/expecting too much without abundantly giving.

  1. How can you do better at abundantly, generously giving and serving in your business this week without expectation of anything in return?

  2. Our businesses have to support us if we want to keep our doors open. How can you do better at directly asking for and openly receiving in your business this week?

At the beginning of my business I had such a hard time directly letting people know how they can work with me or when I have client spaces open. The more I became convinced of my value and owned the results that I can help women achieve, the more I was willing to come out of hiding and “feel bad” about NOT telling women how they can work with me.What shifts do you need to make in your life today to find balance in the week ahead?
